About Eternal Disciple

Welcome to Eternal Disciple.com.

My name is Chad. I’m the main blogger/content creator for this website and my hope is that you find value in the message that we offer. It’s a message about living a simple life that’s focused on having a closer walk with Jesus and removing the excess junk and clutter that gets in the way.

The truth is, I think that the world has a misrepresented view of what being a Christian is all about. Whether it’s because of past church hurts, the abundance of hypocrisy coming from many pulpits, or just the complicated and watered down versions of the Gospel that are being preached out there, people are becoming far more reluctant to listen to the truth each passing day.

When you really get down to the truth of Jesus’ message it was very simple: “Come, follow Me…”

Yes, Jesus had a lot to say and had many teachings over the course of His ministry. But at the heart of it all, it’s about following Him. Yet, we all have a tendency to over complicate it at times.

People know us more by what we are against than what we are for…than Who we are for. We have forgotten the greatest commandment because we are so engrossed in our boycotts, our social media rants, our protests, and being “right”. We have forgotten all about loving our neighbor.

I’m not saying that we shouldn’t stand up for the truth and for what’s right. But when all we ever do is run to the next rally or jump at the chance to smack down a “sinner”, we have missed the whole point.

Now, we can place the blame on whoever we want. But the truth is, the world will continue to have darkness, division, and troubles until Jesus ultimately returns. We can’t fix it and we can’t make it all go away.

What we can do, however, is change the way that we react:

We can show love in the midst of hate.

We can remain calm in the midst of chaos.

We can share our story and the message of Jesus to those who are seeking not just by our “knowledge” and words, but by our actions and reactions.

The purpose of this blog is to help us get back to basics of Jesus’ message and examine ourselves and our lifestyle. We live in a world that’s driven by greed, consumerism, and chasing the forever coveted “happiness”. It’s easy to fall into the traps.

A few months back I discovered something called minimalism and it’s the biggest life changing discovery that’s happened to me since I first gave my life to Jesus. It was a huge wake-up call for me and showed me how misplaced my focus has been for my entire adult life.  Now, my wife and I are making a lot of changes in our lives: decluttering, identifying and setting core values, and asking very deliberate questions about how we use our limited time and resources on this earth.

This website isn’t primarily about minimalism. But we will devote a small section to share our journey and how we are overcoming all of the strings, chains, and traps that have tied us down for so many years.

When you put it all together, that’s where the tagline came from:

In pursuit of a simplified, Jesus-centered life with no strings attached.

We named the blog “Eternal Disciple” because that’s who we are called to be.  Disciples or “students” of our Master and learn from Him. And I don’t think we will ever be done learning from Him, in this life or the life to come. Learning from Jesus, I believe is an eternal adventure.

I long for the day to sit at His feet and hear all of the stories He has to share. But in the meantime, we have His Word, and the Holy Spirit to guide us. We also have each other to help us when we need prayer, guidance, support, or accountability.

My hope is that this becomes more than a blog and that we can build a community for believers in all stages of their walk to learn, grow, and share with each other.

Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.
~Proverbs 27:17 NASB~

    • Thanks, Laura! I always tell people I didn’t find minimalism (simple living), it found me! My wife and I are on a fun journey of decluttering, rediscovering what’s actually important, learning more about ourselves and tapping into the passions that the noise of worldly pursuits seems to hide. It’s been an amazing journey so far and every day is a new adventure. I’m currently working on minimalism specific content that will be released in a series of articles on this page over the coming months as well as a book. Hopefully, you will find some great tips to help you on your own journey!
